~ An exploration of decay and renewal. ~
A myriad of crises are converging for which humans are responsible. The very biosphere that sustains all life is being pushed to the brink of collapse. Our anthropocentric worldview reinforces a paradigm of unfettered growth, indignant competition and limitless waste.
Nature has limits and we’ve run up against them.
Surrounded by this intensifying decay, an ever-present teacher is there to guide us toward renewal, should we care to pay attention.
Highly textural and at times daunting, the sense of renewal appears insignificant. Much like our present situation, the fact that is there at all should provide hope and learning for us to create a better future.
This exhibit appeared as part of the ReFrame International Film Festival in Ontario this past January.
These photos were taken in various locations throughout Cuba, Ukraine and the US. They are printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Rag at about 36" x 24" and hung raw using 1930's Esterbrook industrial clips.
